Quebec makes a first offer to the Federation of General Practitioners of Quebec (FMOQ)

Quebec tabled a first offer this Tuesday to family doctors, as part of negotiations regarding their salaries and working conditions. The Legault government says that the “key word” in this proposal is access to health care for the population.

The information, first published by The Presswas confirmed on Wednesday by The DutyThe details of the offer made to the Fédération des médecins omnipraticiens du Québec (FMOQ) were not disclosed by Sonia LeBel, President of the Treasury Board.

“We hope to modernize the organization of primary care so that the patient can see the right professional at the right time. We must refocus the role of the doctor on the tasks that only the doctor can do,” argued M’s office.me LeBel, in a written statement.

The office of the President of the Treasury Board believes it has already begun this shift by allowing pharmacists to renew certain prescriptions. It also mentions that by removing certain administrative tasks from general practitioners, it gives them the opportunity to spend more time with patients.

“But we need to go further and we are hopeful that the FMOQ will be open to working with us,” adds Sonia LeBel’s office.
