A season to forget for Caroline Garcia. Eliminated in the second round of the Australian Open, Roland-Garros and Wimbledon, the French number 1 has not won a single match at the US Open. She was eliminated at the outset, on Tuesday, August 27, by the Mexican Renata Zarazua at the end of a one-sided match (6-1, 6-4). Her opponent, 92nd player in the world, was playing her first match in the main draw of the New York tournament and is only experiencing her second success in a Grand Slam tournament, at 26 years old.

Totally overwhelmed in the first set, which she partly offered to Zarazua by committing a multitude of unforced errors, Caroline Garcia came back into the match in the second set, during which she notably found efficiency in her serve, to come back to 4-4.

But, on another completely missed service game, she allowed the Mexican to serve for the match at 5-4. The 92nd in the world benefited from yet another unforced error, the 33rd of the day for Garcia, on match point to qualify for the second round, where she will face the Danish Caroline Wozniacki (71st).
