“For the PS, there are two options : Either we sulk, we refuse everything, we put ourselves in a corner and we no longer participate in anything. Or, we say that we will neither be excessive, because we are not Jean-Luc Mélenchon, nor Emmanuel Macron’s auxiliaries”declared Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, first national secretary delegate of the PS, mayor of Rouen, on franceinfo on Tuesday August 27.

The elected official reacts to the fact that Emmanuel Macron began new consultations on Tuesday to find a successor to Gabriel Attal, this time without the RN or LFI, after having swept aside the Lucie Castets option. He also reacts to the fact that on Monday, Olivier Faure, First Secretary of the PS, had affirmed that he would not go to the Élysée for the second round of discussions, and that the socialist deputies would vote a motion of censure against any government other than that of the NFP.

For Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, it will therefore be “neither Macron nor Mélenchon”. And the mayor continued: “Any form of continuation of Macronism will be without us. We will not be Emmanuel Macron’s guarantor ministers.”

However, Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol does not want to remain inactive and is opposed to “the empty chair policy” who is “rather harmful to the one who is absent.” He therefore said he was ready to resume discussions. “Of coursehe says, because there is a possibility between the two extremes.”The president is going to appoint a prime minister. I don’t know who it will be. So is the attitude systematic censorship?”he asks. “Or are we trying to find ways and means for left-wing policies to be implemented?”

“If they are the same people with the same policies, then we will censor. Any extension of Macronism, we will censor.”he repeats. “On the other hand, it is possible that there are talented people who carry out policies that are useful to the French. […] That people of good will agree to do what the French expect.”
