Despite the consultations led by Emmanuel Macron, no agreement has been reached on the name of the future Prime Minister. On Monday, August 26, the Head of State dismissed the idea of a government led by the New Popular Front. A position that the left denounces.

After several hours of consultations at the Élysée Palace on Monday 26 August, no agreement has emerged to find the future tenant of Matignon. However, the representatives of each political force have all been received. “The New Popular Front has positioned the far left at the gates of power. We have therefore indicated that we are in favour of a motion of censure” in the event of a government led by the NFP, said Jordan Bardella, president of the National Rally.

Emmanuel Macron wanted to gauge the risk of a motion of censure if the rebels participated in a government. In a statement, the president affirmed in the evening the impossibility for the NFP to have a majority. At the weekend, Jean-Luc Mélenchon had nevertheless opened the door to a left-wing government without his movement. A door immediately closed by Yaël Braun-Pivet, after her meeting with the head of state. The deputy said she wanted “avoid a policy which destroys, first by dogmatism, or by electoralism, the reforms which have produced results“. After 41 days without a government, and while the left is protesting against this blockage, new discussions are to take place on Tuesday.
