Political instability, the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, gloomy weather… The tourism sector has been shaken by current events in the middle of the season, offering a rather mixed assessment to professionals in the sector.

Elections in June, gloomy weather in July, the Olympic Games in August… This summer, the summer season was shaken up, offering a contrasting tourism report in France. However, the South, particularly the Côte d’Azur, came out the big winner of the season. In Saint-Raphaël, in the Var, a campsite is almost full and is expecting a good occupancy in the coming weeks. The arrival of the Tour de France in Nice (Alpes-Maritimes) and the guaranteed sunshine partly explain these good figures.

This summer, the occupancy rate near the Mediterranean was 85% in July, compared to only 70% around the Channel and 66% on the Breton coast. In the capital, the results are also mixed with minus 10 points of attendance in July, but an increase of 1.7 points in August. The disrupted activity of some Parisian professionals was disrupted by the traffic restrictions before the Games, causing their turnover to collapse. According to experts, the success of the Olympic Games should attract many more visitors in the coming years.
