The Volkswagen ID. Buzz will be expensive

Those who want to get their hands on the first electric minivan to hit Canadian soil will have to break the bank. The Volkswagen ID. Buzz will cost nearly $30,000 more than the ID.4 compact SUV from which it is derived, making federal and provincial incentives inaccessible.

You’ll have to pay $77,495 to get your hands on the entry-level livery of this new model, whose pretty face was largely influenced by the legendary Bus. This 1st Edition version includes a single 282 hp rear motor and a 91 kWh battery, the only one offered, regardless of the version. Volkswagen estimates its range at 377 km, which is not really competitive on the current chessboard.

This 1st Edition version will also be offered with an optional all-wheel drive system that increases the price to $82,995. This adds an electric motor at the front to increase the maximum power to 335 hp, in addition to traction when the weather is less cooperative. It will be able to travel 373 km. Aside from the original colors, only one option is on the menu: an electrochromatic panoramic roof ($2,000).

Beyond the financial aspect, this ID. Buzz will allow Volkswagen to operate in a segment without direct competitors. Offered only with a long wheelbase in North America, it measures 300 mm more than the ID.4 with which it shares its platform and mechanical components. This allows for two additional seats behind the middle bench.

The first Volkswagen ID. Buzz will arrive on Canadian soil at the end of the year.
