For people with disabilities, public transport and travel in cities are often difficult. To access the Olympic sites, several obstacles remain, despite new provisions.

Wheelchair basketball fan Roxanne Rey decided to test the route she will take in a few days to attend the Paralympic Games in Paris. To get to the Arena de Bercy, her first option is to take the bus. The one she wants to take has not been served since May, due to a diversion. An Olympic site is in fact on the route. To get to the RER, Roxanne is forced to take the road because of the uneven sidewalks.

“There are trash cans sometimes, you have to avoid tourists who are on their phones. It’s a bit complicated”she explains. Inside the station, to avoid having to improvise, you have to book the help of an agent 24 hours in advance. 30 minutes pass before she can get on board. “I spend more time in the station than on the train, on certain journeys.” In total, it took Roxanne 2 hours to reach Bercy, compared to 30 minutes for an able-bodied person.
