“Israel wants to reach a ceasefire” in Gaza, says Daniel Halevy-Goetschel, Minister-Counsellor at the Israeli Embassy in France, on franceinfo Monday, August 26. While the negotiations underway in Cairo, Egypt, are not successful, Daniel Halevy-Goetschel explains that Israel “wants to continue talks on truce”with a view to finding an agreement which would allow “bring all hostages back to Israel” and would establish, according to him, “a long-lasting calm” in the Middle East.

The Minister-Counsellor at the Israeli Embassy in France has ruled out new bombings in Lebanon in response to the attack carried out by Hezbollah on the weekend of August 24 and 25. The attack was launched in response to the assassination of one of Hezbollah’s military leaders, Fouad Chokr, killed on July 30 in an Israeli strike near Beirut.

“It was first and foremost a preemptive attack” which took place last weekend, “in order to protect the Israeli population”argues Daniel Halevy-Goetschel. The Hebrew state remains “vigilant”. If attacks take place against the population, “Israel will defend itself and do everything to prevent these attacks from taking place”he concluded.
