It took investigators 15 hours to find the suspect in the attack on a synagogue on Saturday, August 24, in La Grande-Motte (Hérault). The man, injured during his arrest, has not yet been questioned.

He thought he would find refuge in a building, but his escape lasted less than a day. When the police officers from the Raid and the search brigades intervened, it was 11:35 p.m. In a few minutes, they entered the heart of a neighborhood known for its intense drug trafficking. They targeted a tower because the suspect was hiding on the upper floors. A resident came face to face with the police. The suspect then fired at the police with an automatic weapon loaded with blanks. The latter returned fire and hit him in the face.

According to information from France 2, he is Algerian, in a regular situation, known for traffic offences and drug use, but unknown to the anti-terrorist services. He had an address in Nîmes (Gard), in a shelter for the homeless. His arsonist journey is also better known. He first targeted the synagogue, which, when he arrived, was closed.
