The Minister of the Interior denounced a “despicable anti-Semitic act” on Sunday on France 2, the day after the fire in front of the synagogue in La Grande-Motte.

The resigning Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, denounced on Sunday August 25 on France 2 a “despicable anti-Semitic act” about the fire in front of the synagogue in La Grande-Motte on Saturday, and stated that‘”he “There is almost a 200% increase” anti-Semitic acts in France since January 1. He also spoke of a “very significant increase” since the attacks of October 7 perpetrated by Hamas in Israel. Gérald Darmanin also said that “THE “Two thirds of anti-religious acts (…) are against Jews.”

“There is hateful political speech towards the Jews of France and it must be denounced. We can clearly see that a part of the left, unfortunately, is holding this discourse of encouragement of hatred towards our Jewish compatriots,” also considered the resigning Minister of the Interior, who was the guest of the 8 p.m. news on France 2. He also mentioned the profile of the suspect in the fire in front of the synagogue in La Grande-Motte, explaining that he arrived in France in 2016.

Gérald Darmanin finally spoke about the state of the terrorist threat, three days before the start of the Paralympic Games, whose opening ceremony will take place on Wednesday. He affirmed that there was “no particular threat” for the Paralympics, while recalling that the authorities have thwarted three projects “violent actions” aiming for the Olympic Games.
