Major gas leak in Longueuil, Taschereau Boulevard closed

A major gas leak caused the closure of Taschereau Boulevard in Longueuil on Sunday morning. Nearly 20,000 customers are without power in the area.

At around 9:15 a.m., the Longueuil agglomeration police service was informed of a possible gas leak near Taschereau Boulevard, at Chemin du Coteau-Rouge.

As a preventive measure, the artery was closed to traffic between Curé-Poirier Boulevard and the access to the Jacques-Cartier Bridge.

Different teams have been deployed on the ground to identify the source of the leak, which remains unknown.

“We cannot determine at this time how long the operation will last,” said a police spokesperson, François Boucher.

Nearly 20,000 customers were without power around 11:15 a.m., mainly in the Old Longueuil area. The operation could lead to additional power outages, Boucher warned.

While the other Jacques Cartier Bridge ramps remain accessible, the police department is asking the public to avoid the area. “We should expect traffic disruptions,” François Boucher said.
