The main suspect in the knife attack that killed three men at a festival on Saturday, August 24, in Solingen, Germany, has been arrested. He has turned himself in.

German police had searched for him in vain all day. The alleged murderer turned himself in on Saturday, August 24, and confessed to being responsible for the attack. Issa al H. is a 26-year-old Syrian. As a refugee from a country at war, he had been legally residing in Germany since 2023. For the people of Solingen, who continue to pay tribute to the three victims, his arrest is a great relief. “It’s reassuring of course, I think it’s a good thing that the person surrendered”said one resident.

A few hours earlier, the terrorist group Islamic State had claimed responsibility for the attack, which it said was intended to avenge Muslims in Palestine and elsewhere, on its Telegram channel. The German Federal Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office has taken over the investigation. The alleged murderer is expected to be brought before an investigating judge later today.
