Shohei Ohtani Becomes Fastest to Join 40-40 Club

(Los Angeles) Shohei Ohtani hit a grand slam in the ninth inning to become a member of the fastest 40-homer, 40-stolen-base club in single-season history Friday in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 7-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Ohtani made the big move with two outs after stealing a 40e goal earlier in the match.

With the feat in his 126th game, Ohtani surpassed Alfonso Soriano’s 2006 mark of 147 games with the Washington Nationals.

He is the sixth player to be part of the 40-40 club after Jose Canseco, Barry Bonds, Alex Rodriguez, Soriano and Ronald Acuna.

Ohtani is the Nationals’ home run leader in 2024.

With 92 RBIs, he is second only to Marcell Ozuna of the Atlanta Braves in the National League.
