Blue line extension | Difficult traffic on Jean-Talon starting in the fall

Traffic will be difficult on Jean-Talon Street starting this fall and for the next few years due to the start of major construction work on the extension of the blue metro line.

This was announced on Friday by the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) when it launched the work campaign.

Jean-Talon Street will be completely blocked near the intersections of Pie-IX, Viau and Langelier boulevards as of the end of September 2024. Starting next year, another obstruction will be installed at the intersection of Lacordaire Boulevard.

The STM assures that all businesses on rue Jean-Talon will remain accessible.

These obstacles come on the heels of the awarding of the 1.1 billion construction contract that forms the “backbone” of the project. As revealed by The Press Earlier this summer, a consortium led by the company Pomerleau won the bid. It was the only player in the running.

The extension of the blue line is now expected to cost $7.6 billion and be inaugurated in 2031.
