Although the planet has broken heat records this summer and 2024 is on track to become the hottest year in history, southern Quebec is recording record low temperatures in the middle of summer.
August 21 was the coldest day ever recorded in Montreal. It was 15.3 degrees Celsius, a record unmatched since 1936 when the mercury peaked at 15.6 degrees Celsius.
The same observation was made in Trois-Rivières, where temperatures dropped to 15.2 degrees Celsius, slightly below the 15.5 degrees Celsius recorded in 1982.
According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, temperatures will return to seasonal temperatures as of Friday.
