New Megalopolis Trailer | Coppola Responds to Criticism

“True genius is often misunderstood.”

It is with this sentence pronounced by Laurence Fishburne that the new trailer for Megalopolisby Francis Ford Coppola, was badly panned by critics when it was presented at the last Cannes Film Festival.

Then excerpts from negative reviews of his classics are shown. The Godfather, Apocalypse Now And Dracula. Then, Adam Driver, in the shoes of the main character of Megalopolisbrings the disapproving whirlwind to a halt. Finally, the trailer for the latest film by the “visionary writer and director” begins almost a minute after it began.

The new footage doesn’t reveal much more about the plot than was previously announced. Following a disaster, architect Cesar Catilina (Adam Driver) wants to rebuild New Rome differently. His partner Julia Cicero (Nathalie Emmanuel), who is also the daughter of Mayor Franklyn Cicero (Giancarlo Esposito), asks him what he will do about those who oppose his vision. That’s what we’ll find out on September 27, when the film, which also stars Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Kathryn Hunter and Dustin Hoffman, hits theaters.
