Bordighera, Italy, offers a taste of la dolce vita at a lower cost. A few kilometers from France, the city is a little corner of paradise where the cost of living is cheaper.

Breathtaking scenery. With a historic city centre and an attractive seaside, Bordighera (Liguria, Italy) is located only 15 kilometres from the French border. A Marseille resident who bought a house there confides that everything is “much cheaper than in France”. Renting a deckchair on the beach costs four times less than on the Côte d’Azur. The restaurant menus offer dishes that are also attractively priced, with cocktails for 7 euros. “It allows you to have a little more fun”confides a French tourist.

In total, the French clientele represents 50% of the restaurant’s turnover. The tourist office also takes great care of the French customers, who are present in large numbers in Bordighera. At the end of the day, it is possible to have an aperitif with a breathtaking view of the sea and with something to nibble on, a free ritual in Italy.
