The opening night of the 2024 edition of Gamescom, the major German video game trade fair, took place in full color and revelations on Tuesday. A television series celebrating video games, a new opus for the series of Borderlands and a first trailer for the multiplayer video game based on the hit series Squid Games are on the menu for the event that closes the summer for the video game world.
A fourth Borderlands in 2025
Gearbox Software opened the show by announcing the arrival of Borderlands 4the latest entry in its beloved shooter series. All the short trailer reveals is that the game will be coming to PS5, Xbox Series, and PC sometime in 2025. The series was recently adapted into a movie by filmmaker Eli Roth.
Secret Levelan anthology series that puts video games in the spotlight
The creators behind the Netflix series Love, Death & Robots are working on a new animated anthology series, this time for Amazon Prime Video. Secret Level promises a journey through several video game universes such as Pac-Man, Dungeons and Dragons, Warhammer 40,000 or even Armored CoreThe 15 episodes will land on the video streaming platform on December 10.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle finally on PS5
In a new trailer narrated by Troy Baker, the actor who plays the archaeologist in this video game adventure, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has made its release date official for December 9. Against all expectations, the game developed by the Microsoft-owned studio MachineGames will also be available on Sony’s PS5 console in spring 2025. It was originally announced as an exclusive to PC and Xbox consoles.
Live Squid Games oneself
Fans of the Netflix series Squid Games were able to discover a trailer shedding light on the video game based on the series. In Squid Games Unleashedplayers will be able to participate in several mini-games in order to win the game and will be eliminated if they fail at one of them — just like in the South Korean series. The game is coming “soon” and will be available directly from the Netflix app.
Marvel Rivals And Civilization 7 are getting release dates
The highly anticipated Marvel Rivals and the strategy game Sid Meier’s Civilization VII won’t be waiting much longer, they will be released on December 6 and February 11 respectively. The team-based shooter based on the Marvel comics universe took advantage of the evening to confirm that all characters will be available for free, even for those added after the release.
A new opus for the series of Mafia
As a closing, a new entry in the role-playing game series that aims to evoke the feeling of watching a gangster movie has been announced. Mafia: The Old Country transports players to Sicily in the 1800s to witness the origins of the mafia. Only one promise has been made: the curious will learn more about the project in December 2024.
