The mayor of Plateau-Mont-Royal acknowledged Tuesday that the obligation to pay $666 annually to affix a parking sticker to a scooter “does not make sense.”
This is the amount that was requested from a citizen of the district, at the beginning of the summer. The scooter was the second vehicle for which he wanted to buy a sticker.
However, a second sticker always costs $666 per year, regardless of the type of vehicle concerned.
“However, a scooter consumes little, pollutes little, is only used six months a year and takes up little space on public roads,” denounced citizen Marc Poulin when addressing the issue at the Montreal city council.
The mayor of the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough, Luc Rabouin, acknowledged that the situation is problematic. “It’s true, it doesn’t make sense that he would pay that price for a scooter,” the elected official replied. “We are looking with our services to see if we could have a “scooter” sticker. We will try to find a solution.”
Mr. Rabouin stressed that this was an extremely rare case, since scooter owners usually manage to park on the street in areas without a sticker.
