First unconscious person found near crashed helicopter at Lake Elvert

A helicopter was found Monday morning in Lake Elvert, halfway between Maniwaki and Val-d’Or, in the La Vérendrye Wildlife Reserve. It was being sought by authorities, the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) confirmed Monday afternoon.

An unconscious person was found near the aircraft, the SQ said. “She was transported to Val-d’Or Hospital,” the police authority said in a press release.

The SQ located the helicopter around 9:30 a.m. Monday morning.

The day before, around 11:15 p.m., the police were called for three people who were missing after being transported by helicopter from Mont-Laurier to Amos.

The SQ said that according to its initial information, the weather conditions were “difficult” and “the missing persons had informed their relatives that they were landing while waiting for the weather to improve”, but they had not heard from them since.

The search and rescue operation is continuing to locate the two other occupants, the SQ assured.
