Cincinnati Tournament | Sinner crowned one week before the US Open

(Cincinnati) World No. 1 Jannik Sinner completed his preparation for the US Open, which starts in a week, on Monday by winning the Cincinnati Masters 1000 at the expense of American Frances Tiafoe, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2.

The 23-year-old Italian has bounced back well after his elimination in the quarter-finals nine days ago in Montreal, also on hard courts. The main draw of the US Open, the last Major of the season, opens on Monday, August 26 and will last until September 8.

After a tight first set, which ended in a tiebreaker, Sinner used his serve to win his third Masters 1000 in 1 hour 36 minutes, adding to those obtained in Toronto (2023) and Miami (2024).

The reigning Australian Open champion now has 15 trophies.

As for the local Tiafoe, who was playing in his first Masters 1000 final, he failed to imitate his illustrious compatriot Andy Roddick, the last American to win in Cincinnati. That was in 2006.
