Back to school: concerns among unions

Unions bringing together workers from the Quebec school world believe that the announcements of the Government of Quebec on January 6 on security measures in classrooms in the context of the spread of the Omicron variant are not reassuring and demand that the return to class of January takes place in a safe environment.

The Centrale des unions du Québec (CSQ), its four federations in the school sector and the Provincial Association of Teachers of Quebec (APEQ-QPAT) report to the ministers of Health and Social Services, Christian Dubé, and of Education, Jean-François Roberge, that the staff already hard at work in the communities must be better protected now as several outbreaks of COVID-19 occur.

The unions deplore that after 22 months of the pandemic, many uncertainties remain as to the ventilation in the establishments.

The president of the CSQ, Éric Gingras, denounces that Minister Roberge is still in the process of announcing the upcoming installation of CO2 readers and of saying to open the windows of the premises when in his opinion, this should be done urgently. the installation of air exchangers and portable units in classrooms and rooms where the air quality is poor.

The unions are also demanding that N95 masks be made available to members of education staff who demand them, that rapid screening tests be provided to all staff in the school network and that immediate l ” access to PCR tests for staff already at work.

The government of Quebec is also called upon to ensure that it has enough staff to open classes and schools.
