The threat of the rebels to dismiss Emmanuel Macron continues to divide the left

The rebels are threatening to “dismiss” the President of the Republic if he does not appoint Lucie Castets, the NFP candidate for Matignon. An initiative that the other parties in the left-wing alliance are not following.

France Insoumise threatens to “dismiss Emmanuel Macron” who refuses to appoint the NFP candidate, Lucie Castets, to Matignon. To do this, LFI wants to have Article 68 of the Constitution adopted by Parliament, a mechanism that seems unrealizable according to constitutional experts. But this exit from the rebels divides the left again.

After the socialists and the communists, the ecologists assure that they have not “nothing to do with all that”. “Do I think that this topic was timely, was it the smart thing to do this weekend? You understand that if that was the case, I would have said it a long time ago. I also think that there are not many people, outside of France Insoumise, who came to support this approach.”explained Marine Tondelier, the leader of the Greens, on franceinfo Monday August 19.

“We can clearly see that it is actually a threat. I understand why the rebels end up saying that.”

“I also know that it’s like them. They are rebellious, that’s their strength too. There’s no need to make a big deal out of it. We’re not going to dwell on it all week.”she concluded.

Marine Tondelier is thus trying to minimize tensions to avoid arriving weakened on Friday, August 23 at the Élysée during Emmanuel Macron’s consultations, at a time when the president’s entourage is dreaming of the NFP’s explosion. The New Popular Front intends to arrive with four – rebellious, environmentalists, communists and socialists – around its candidate for Matignon, Lucie Castets, with the same objective: to impose her on the head of state who, for his part, still does not want her.

But some socialists refuse to go with LFI to the Élysée if La France insoumise maintains its threat of dismissal. This is the case of the opponents of Olivier Faure, who never miss an LFI outing to question the union on the left, like the mayor of Rouen, Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, and that of Vaulx-en-Velin, Hélène Geoffroy. The latter even demands the holding of a national office of the PS, a meeting to decide the form and the substance. In other words: go together or separately on Friday August 23.

These socialists also want to know what elements of discussion to bring to the head of state and what conditions the Socialist Party could, or could not, accept. So many discussions to be conducted while Emmanuel Macron has been blowing hot and cold in recent months between dissolution, political truce and consultations.

But with this exit, Jean-Luc Mélenchon and his troops are taking the risk of dividing the NFP, for “regain control of the political agenda”, according to a close friend of Lucie Castets. “The warning issued by LFI has already had a result, that of radicalizing the PS which is now committed to a motion of censure, and that is a good result”tackles Jean-Luc Mélenchon, on his blog.

The rebellious leader wants to take the political class by surprise to try to remind people that he remains the best person to represent the alternative to the Macronists, with the desire to precipitate “the final confrontation”. The famous “them or us”the extreme right or LFI, remains the theory of the rebel leader, who celebrates his 73rd birthday on Monday. A communist parliamentarian jokes to franceinfo: “Before thinking about the next presidential election, let’s first make sure that the result of the legislative elections is respected”.
