The Minister of the Interior takes stock of the summer fires from Hérault, where he is travelling, on Monday 19 August. “4 000 hectares burned” in France so far in 2024 “compared to 12,000 at the same date last year”according to Gérald Darmanin. He arrived in Frontignan, in Hérault, where a fire covered 320 hectares between Gigean and Frontignan. The fire broke out on Sunday afternoon, very close to the A9 motorway, before being brought under control during the night from Sunday to Monday by the firefighters.

In total in the department, “400 hectares have burned“, figures Gérald Darmanin, taking into account a second fire, a pine forest fire, which on Sunday evening covered 60 hectares in Nissan-lez-Ensérune, in the west of the department, according to France Bleu Hérault. “We are having a rather mild summer”confirms Christophe Béchu, the resigning Minister for Ecological Transition, who also went to Frontignan.
