Jean-Paul Belmondo was very important in the career and life of Alain Delon. The two cinema icons made eight films together. Over the years, their rivalry turned into friendship.

For decades, Jean-Paul Belmondo and Alain Delon have been compared, pitted against each other and put in competition. One is sunny and sympathetic, the other magnetic and icy. So different, they were also complementary. They entered the big league at the same time, in March 1960. Belmondo explodes with Godard, while Delon shines in Full SunTwo years earlier, the two young leading men had crossed paths for the first time in a film by Marc Allégret.

Having become stars, they will briefly meet on the set of Is Paris burning?but the real fight would not take place until 1970, in Borsalino. The film tells the story of two criminals from the Marseille underworld in the 1930s. Although it was a huge success, a grain of sand would darken the picture: the name of Alain Delon, also the film’s producer, appeared twice on the poster, which angered Belmondo. After a trial, the two men remained estranged for several years, before reuniting in 1998.
