Auction | Iconic Indiana Jones felt hat sells for $630,000

(Los Angeles) The brown felt hat worn by actor Harrison Ford in the second Indiana Jones film has sold at auction for $630,000 (C$889,557), film and television memorabilia company Propstore announced Friday.

The hat featured in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom from 1984 was expected to fetch between $250,000 and $500,000, according to the item’s online description.

The hat comes from the personal collection of the late stuntman Dean Ferrandini, who also wore it to replace Harrison Ford as Jones, the dashing, snake-hating archaeologist.

Keeping the hat in place during filming was a “constant challenge,” the Propstore expert said in the online description, and foam pieces were inserted to make it fit more snugly.

Created by the Herbert Johnson Hat Company in London, it is made from sand-coloured rabbit felt.

Other items sold include a white Imperial Scout biker helmet from the film. Return of the Jedi from 1983, which sold for US$315,000, and a ghost costume worn by the stars of the film Scream from 1996, which sold for US$270,900.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom also starred Kate Capshaw as nightclub singer Willie Scott and Ke Huy Quan as Short Round.
