“Mezzo Mozart”, Marina Viotti | Le Devoir

Mezzo-soprano Marina Viotti has just been granted the most beautiful showcase possible by singing, in full view of the entire planet during the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, associated with the metal group Gojira, the Habanera of Carmen, aboard a boat representing the coat of arms of Paris in front of the Conciergerie. This singer, whom we have been following for several years, is known for her openness to various types of music, from opera to metal and traditional music, and has just signed a contract with the Naïve label. Here at Aparté, she delivers a Mozart recital that draws on her temperament and the breadth of her range, which allows her to move from the role of Susanna of Figar’s Weddingo (tracks 5 and 6) to the bass of the opera Mitridate or of theExult, rejoice and to the Sesto of The Clemency of Titus. It is perfectly in place in the concert air “ Ch’io mi scordi di te… Non temer, amato bene “, where his accompaniment is an Alfred Walter pianoforte from 1795, tuned with the transparency of the orchestra on old instruments.
