Plane crashes into sea in Var during commemorations of 80 years of Provence landings

A plane crashed into the sea in Lavandou, in the Var, on Friday during the commemorations of the 80th anniversary of the landing in Provence, reports France Bleu Provence. The Air and Space Force clarified to franceinfo that it was not a plane from the Patrouille de France, but a Fouga Magister that belongs to an association.

“Rescue operations to find the pilot are currently being coordinated by CROSS Med”the Var prefecture said in a press release. The prefecture added that the accident took place around 5 p.m. as part of a “air meeting off the coast of Lavandou”The French patrol was announced as a show as part of the commemorations, underlines France Bleu Provence, which adds that the maritime gendarmerie, the nautical brigade and the French Navy are on site.
