Long-range forecasts suggest that the tropical storm Ernesto is expected to move southeastern Nova Scotia by Monday. But the Canadian Hurricane Centre says it’s unclear at this point how the storm will affect the Atlantic provinces — especially Nova Scotia and the island of Newfoundland.
Thursday’s forecast from the federal agency in Halifax said the storm was expected to hit Bermuda on Saturday as a “Category 3 hurricane,” generating powerful winds and large ocean swells.
The federal agency says the ocean swell will begin arriving along Nova Scotia’s Atlantic coast on Saturday and is expected to intensify throughout the weekend.
The center ofErnesto The storm is expected to be south of Nova Scotia as the storm moves northeast, but it’s too early to tell whether strong winds and rain will hit that province, Environment Canada says.
The agency stresses, however, that there is a “slightly greater possibility” thatErnesto influences conditions on the island of Newfoundland. She suggests that Canadian offshore areas “certainly monitor this storm closely.”
