On the way back from vacation, the French will surely stop at motorway service stations. These are expanding, modernizing and adapting to electric vehicles.

On the A8, the terrace of a motorway service area redeveloped a year ago offers a bird’s eye view of Monaco and the Mediterranean Sea. Motorists are delighted. Services have been added such as electric charging stations, or a workspace inside. Enough to make drivers stay a little longer.

An area has been renamed Marcel Pagnol near Aubagne. The place offers a small exhibition on the life of the Provençal filmmaker and writer. “We are making sure that people stop more regularly and for longer so that they can set off again more calmly and safely.”explains Floriane Foltz, Escota’s marketing and customer manager. Toys also feature prominently on the shelves. Of the 180 rest areas managed by this motorway company, half have been redeveloped in 10 years. Thanks to the services and cultural and leisure spaces, some have seen their sales increase by 20 to 30%.
