An accident between two Rafales took place in Meurthe-et-Moselle, two pilots still wanted

An accident between two military planes occurred in Meurthe-et-Moselle on Wednesday August 14 in the middle of the day, and “pilot search operations have been initiated”the department’s prefecture said in a statement. These are two Rafale fighter jets based in Saint-Dizier (Haute-Marne), France Télévisions learned from a military source. The accident occurred in the Colombey-les-Belles area, a town on the edge of the Vosges department.

The two planes collided with each other, according to a spokesman for the Air and Space Force in Paris told AFP. The pilot of one of the two aircraft ejected before impact. He is safe. But the instructor and student pilot who were in the second are still missing early this afternoon. “We are still looking for the second crew”she added.

“The departmental operational center was immediately activated and the Sater plan [sauvetage aéroterrestre] engaged in support of military forces”announced the prefecture of Meurthe-et-Moselle. “The military authority will communicate on the causes of the accident”she further indicates, explaining that a “another update will be made as soon as new information is known.”
