A ratings success. Some 17.1 million viewers on average watched the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on Sunday evening, August 11, on France 2, according to figures from Médiamétrie published on Monday.
The opening ceremony, on July 26, was watched live by an average of 23.2 million viewers, then replayed by an additional 1.2 million people, for a historic total of 24.4 million.
The live audience record on French television is held by the World Cup final won by Argentina against France in December 2022, which brought together 24.08 million viewers on TF1.
Broadcast by the public group France Télévisions in free-to-air and by the pay channel Eurosport, the Paris Olympic Games attracted massive audiences for two weeks. In addition to traditional TV audiences, France Télévisions announced on Friday that more than a billion videos of the Olympic Games had been viewed on all of its social networks since the start of the competition.
