The artistic direction of Le Devoir stands out twice in the Society for News Design competition

True to form, The Duty wins two awards in the Society for News Design (SND) competition, an international organization that invents, creates, promotes and teaches the best visual journalism in the world. With the SND competition, the organization annually celebrates excellence in all aspects of news design.

It is in the “print” section that the daily newspaper wins two awards of excellence, for two publications in its paper editions. The artistic director of the newspaper, Claire Dazat, is responsible for the visual play of these editions.

In the “report cover” category, the cover page of the Perspectives section of the weekend edition of April 8, 2023, which presented the “Pornoculture” file, received the award of excellence. On the award-winning page, a blurred banana fills almost the entire space. An iconography that is maintained in each article in the file.

The slightly deflated party balloon surrounded by the text of the article Helium escapes into space won the award for excellence in the category of “inside page of a report”. Published in the edition of Tuesday, August 29, 2023, it is part of the series “Disappearance”, which explores objects or concepts forgotten over time.

” At Dutywe like to be bold in our layouts, both on paper and on digital platforms,” recalls Claire Dazat, the daily’s artistic director. “Visual play is essential to generate interest and encourage the reader to read our content. These two awards of excellence are a great recognition of our creative work in the service of information.”
