Meteor showers can be seen in the summer sky. This year, the Perseids will take place on the weekend of August 10 and 11 for the luckiest night-time spectators.

A spectacle that is only offered to the most patient spectators. For the stars to be revealed, the sky must be allowed to darken little by little. “Oh, there’s a shooting star”marvels Anaïs, 12, her eyes fixed on the sky. She admits that she didn’t have time to make a wish, given the speed of the star. Astronomy enthusiasts explained to the spectators where the star showers that can be seen on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 August come from. Every year, in August, the Earth passes through a cloud of dust left by a comet during a phenomenon called the Perseids.

“When the Earth penetrates these dusts at high speed, they re-enter the atmosphere and depending on their orientation, they light up”explains a specialist. The Big Dipper or Andromeda galaxy, this is the perfect opportunity for budding astronomers to also learn how to read the sky map, thanks to the constellations. For some, it is easier to scan the sky with a telescope, to enjoy the spectacle even more closely. The Perseids will remain visible until the end of August.
