War in Ukraine | Two dead in airstrike on Kyiv

(Kyiv) A 35-year-old man and his 4-year-old son were killed on Saturday night by falling missile debris during a Russian attack on Kyiv, Ukrainian rescue services announced.

Three people were also seriously injured after the debris crashed into a residential building in the Brovary district in the eastern suburbs of the Ukrainian capital, the source said.

A large part of the country was under air alert during the night, notably Kyiv, where the first explosions were heard late on Saturday.

The Kyiv military administration reported on the Telegram messenger that the air defense had been activated.

A possible Russian air strike on the capital had been feared in recent days as a response to the ongoing incursion into the Russian region of Kursk, north of the Ukrainian border.

Ukraine is regularly hit by deadly missile and drone strikes. To protect itself, Kyiv is asking its Western allies to provide it with more air defense systems.

On the Russian side, Governor Alexei Smirnov said that 13 people had been injured during the night in Kursk, two of them seriously, when debris from a Ukrainian missile shot down during the night fell on a building.

The governorate of the Russian region of Belgorod, north of Kharkiv, also reported a Ukrainian drone attack, without reporting any casualties at this stage.
