With 16 gold medals, the French delegation exceeds its historic record from Atlanta

Taekwondo athlete Althéa Laurin helped the Paris Olympic Games remain in the history of French sport.

History will remember that it was in Paris, at home, that the French athletes went to break a record dating back to 1996. On Saturday August 10, thanks to taekwondo athlete Althéa Laurin, the French delegation went to get its 16th gold medal in these Olympic Games, one more than at the Atlanta Olympics in the last century.

With only a few hours left before the closing ceremony of this edition, the golden harvest may not be over. Because on Sunday, with the French basketball team Les Bleues – who will challenge Team USA (3:30 p.m.) –, Elodie Clouvel and Marie Oteiza, well placed before the modern pentathlon final starting at 11 a.m., a nice surprise could swell the Olympic crown counter.

At the 1900 Paris Games, the second of the modern era, held over five months, France won 27 gold medals, but its delegation represented almost half of the thousand participants and some events were not sporting.
