“A total surprise” And “an incredible opportunity” : French electronic music producer Calling Marian discovered through one of her fans that American gymnast Simone Biles had used several of her songs during the Olympic Games, she told AFP on Friday.

On Monday, August 5, the gymnastics superstar took to the floor, aiming for a new Olympic title, to the sound of Taylor Swift, Beyoncé and, in between, Calling Marian. Although the American only won the silver medal for her performance, it was a consecration for the 33-year-old artist.

Calling Marian, Marianne Delorme by her real name, who confesses to having very little interest in sport and having barely followed the Games, was alerted by a fan via Instagram, she initially explained on the social network.

“When I came back from vacation, I discovered a message from someone who told me: ‘I feel like I can hear your music in there.’ So I went to watch the video and, sure enough, there was a medley of several songs for Simone Biles’ routine, which included several of my songs remixed a bit.”she detailed to AFP.

“It’s a complete surprise because I haven’t received any request for permission”said the Parisian, who nevertheless assures that she does not “not at all be in vindictiveness”. “What interests me is perhaps to know more and to understand how it happened.”

“What shocked me the most is that she is the best gymnast in the world”the artist stressed, while admitting that he discovered his name for the first time during these Olympic Games.

“Very quickly, I realize that it’s a pretty incredible opportunity and that, most importantly, my music is heard by millions of viewers”she continued.

These pieces, from his latest album Hyper Opusreleased last October, will also be on the program of her concert at the Trabendo, in Paris, on November 14, she does not fail to remind on Instagram.

“I’m not going to miss an opportunity like this”insisted Calling Marian. “Since I’m not someone who’s going to sue, I take what I have to take.”

Having been in the music world for 10 years, the young woman really broke through five years ago, winning the iNOUïS jury prize at Printemps de Bourges in 2019.
