Two police officers, prosecuted for violence committed against a person arrested at the end of July, will be tried in October, franceinfo learned from the Paris prosecutor’s office on Friday, August 9. According to the elements of the investigation communicated by the Paris prosecutor’s office, the two police officers from the 5th and 6th arrondissement police stations arrested a man on the evening of July 25. An arrest that has nothing to do with the Paris Olympic Games, specifies a source close to the case.

During police custody, the first police officer “slapped for no reason” to the arrested person, “when he asked her to hand over her personal belongings”. He hits him again, “slaps” and some “blows with a telescopic baton” a little later, “resulting in a fracture of the forearm consistent with a defensive injury”The policeman also gives “a blow to the eyebrow with a key” to the person in custody when he places him back in his cell.

The first police officer then filed a complaint against the person in custody for violence, without mentioning the use of his baton. The Paris prosecutor’s office is therefore prosecuting him for “violence aggravated by two circumstances resulting in incapacity for work of more than eight days”, “violence by a person in a position of public authority not resulting in incapacity for work”, and “slanderous denunciation”.

A little later in the evening, the detainee waits on a chair to be taken to the hospital, so that his injured arm can be treated. The second police officer “slaps and punches him a dozen times in front of the camera and in front of his colleagues”The Paris prosecutor’s office is prosecuting this second police officer for “intentional violence against a vulnerable person by a person in a position of public authority resulting in an ITT of more than eight days”.

The first police officer is not at his first involvement in a case of police violence. In 2022, he was “accused of having used tear gas inappropriately, five times, in the face of a person he had been asked to accompany after refusing to take his complaint.”

The two men were taken into custody this week and questioned by the National Police Inspectorate (IGPN). The Paris prosecutor’s office on Friday summoned the two police officers to appear in court with a report and placement under judicial supervision (CPVCJ): “They were presented to a magistrate at the end of their police custody, and placed under judicial supervision pending their trial, set for October 29, 2024.”the public prosecutor said.
