A vast system of fraud in the highway code has been uncovered and dismantled in Moselle, France Bleu Lorraine Nord learned from the Moselle prefecture on Friday, August 9. Five examination centers have been closed in the last two months in the department following checks and more than a hundred people are already suspected of cheating.

According to the elements of the investigation that France Bleu Lorraine Nord was able to take note of, the fraudsters sent professionals to pass the code in their place. The authorities have already identified “130 files of Moselle candidates about which there was serious doubt” cheating. Another 200 cases are currently under review.

If cheating is confirmed, suspects will have their code and sometimes their driving license revoked. Their file will be forwarded to the public prosecutor, who may decide to take legal action. They face up to three years in prison, a fine of 45,000 euros and a five-year ban from taking the various driving license exams.

Another part of this vast system of cheating on the Highway Code is the test center. After carrying out checks, the authorities ordered the closure of two centers in Metz, two others in Sarreguemines and one in Forbach. “The prefect may suspend operations temporarily or permanentlyindicates the Moselle prefecture. The organizers of the fraud risk very heavy penalties including: five years of imprisonment and a fine of 375,000 euros. The penalties are increased to ten years of imprisonment and a fine of one million euros when the fraud is committed by an organized gang.”
