Bellechasse garage construction site | Major flooding will have “impacts,” believes the Société de transport de Montréal

The major flooding that occurred at the end of July on the Bellechasse garage construction site will leave its mark, according to the Société de transport de Montréal (STM).

Following a water main break, a large quantity of water penetrated the garage under construction “down to the basement” on July 27, the carrier had already indicated.

The STM expects impacts on the project, but these will take time to be assessed, jointly with the site stakeholders and the experts contacted by the insurance companies on the file.

“The pumping, dewatering and cleaning work has been completed and the site has been able to reopen,” she continued. “This work was coordinated by the construction manager.”

The Bellechasse garage was supposed to be ready for fall 2024, after a significant delay. Earlier this summer, Radio-Canada revealed that it would not be able to accommodate electric buses when it opened as planned, due to safety concerns.

The project is twice as long and twice as expensive as anticipated. Its budget is currently 584 million.
