JD Vance Attacks Tim Walz’s Military Record

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s military record has come under scrutiny since he was named as Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate on the Democratic presidential ticket.

Republicans have questioned how Mr. Walz described his military service and how he left it.

“I would be ashamed to lie about my military service like you did,” Vance said Wednesday while campaigning in Michigan.

Mr. Walz served for 24 years in the Army National Guard before retiring in 2005.

As he prepared to run for the 2005 congressional election, his campaign staff announced in March that he still planned to run, despite the possible deployment of Minnesota National Guard troops to Iraq.

Mr. Walz retired in May 2005, according to the Guard. His unit was ordered to prepare for mobilization in August 2005. The unit mobilized in October and deployed to Iraq in March 2006.
