Judith-Jasmin Prize and Antoine-Desilets Prize | 20 nominations for La Presse

Journalists from The Press have garnered nine nominations for the prestigious Judith-Jasmin Award. Our photojournalists have also been nominated as finalists 11 times for the Antoine-Desilets Award.


The Fédération professionnelle des journalistes du Québec (FPJQ) unveiled the names of the finalists for the 2023 Judith-Jasmin Awards on Thursday evening. The prestigious competition rewards the best journalistic works in Quebec each year.

This year, 192 applications were submitted to the FPJQ in the ten categories of the Judith-Jasmin Prize. In total, nine reports from The Press are competing in seven categories.

Two journalists are finalists in the “Business and Economy” category. Columnist Francis Vailles qualifies for his column on how the government spends cannabis profits. Journalist Isabelle Dubé was also selected for her investigation into the actions of real estate brokers.

Journalist Alexandre Vigneault qualified in the “Arts and Culture” category for his report on the use of music to counter the decline of indigenous languages.

Our investigative journalists, Vincent Larouche and Daniel Renaud are finalists in the “Investigation” category for their report on money laundering in the gaming industry in Kahnawake.

Isabelle Hachey is also a finalist in the “Justice and Miscellaneous” category for her column on the Directorate General for Compensation of Victims of Crime (IVAC). She also qualifies in the “Opinion” category for her column on the October 7 attack by Hamas. Columnist Patrick Lagacé is also a finalist in this category for his column on the suicide of a woman suffering from glaucoma.

Our journalist Alice Girard-Bossé was among the finalists in the “Science and Environment” category for her report on a drug treating asthma and allergies that has been linked to suicides for years.

Alexandre Pratt was selected in the “Sports” category for his column on the Laurentians amateur hockey team, the Palettes roses.

Five photojournalists and one collaborator selected

Photojournalists from The Press and one of our collaborators are finalists 11 times and in six categories for the 2023 edition of the famous Antoine-Desilets prize which rewards the best press photographs of the year in Quebec. In total, 30 applications were submitted to the FPJQ.

Photojournalist Olivier Jean qualifies as a finalist in three categories: “Social Issues”, “Sports” and “Daily Life”.

Alain Roberge’s photographs have placed him twice as a finalist in the “News” and “Portrait” categories.

Photojournalist François Roy is also a two-time finalist, but in his case, for the “Portrait” and “Sports” categories.

Patrick Sansfaçon is among the finalists in the “News” category.

Martin Tremblay’s work places him as a finalist in the categories “Daily Life” and “Photoreportage”.

The collaborator of The Press Alexis Aubin also qualified as a finalist in the “Photoreportage” category.
