Three artisans of “Le Devoir” nominated for the Judith-Jasmin and Antoine-Desilets prizes

Journalists and photographers from Duty receive four nominations for the 2023 editions of the Judith-Jasmin and Antoine-Desilets awards, which respectively reward excellence in the written press and photography.

The Judith-Jasmin Prize, organized by the Fédération professionnelle des journalistes du Québec (FPJQ), has ten categories covering different areas of current affairs. The duty is named in two of these.

Journalist Catherine Lalonde stood out in the “Arts and Culture” category with her text Saint-Armand paper mill closes its Montreal workshop through which she paints a visit to the old workshop where paper was made by hand and by machine for decades. For this nomination, the photos of our photographer Adil Boukind are also highlighted.

In the “Science and Environment” category, journalist Alexandre Shields is nominated for his analysis of the reports of provincial government experts on the Northvolt battery plant project. His report revealed that, according to these experts, the green light to the Northvolt project risks having “major” repercussions for wildlife.

Among the seven categories of the Antoine-Desilets prize, also organized by the FPJQ, photographer Valérian Mazataud is nominated twice in the “Portrait” category.

Firstly for his photograph of the actor Marcel Sabourin, where the latter is seen with his son, Jérôme Sabourin, who made the documentary At the end of nothing at allwhich traces his father’s journey.

His portrait of multidisciplinary artist Françoise Sullivan earned him his second nomination. Valérian Mazataud captured the centenarian artist in front of one of her untitled works created in 1999, during an exhibition at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

Marie-Andrée Chouinard, editor-in-chief of Dutyapplauds the work of all the nominees for this edition of the awards. “Congratulations to our journalists and our photographer nominated this year. The jury has noted the work of valiant reporters who track down the news and develop it in a rigorous and passionate manner. Bravo!”

Among other media participating in the competitions, The Press leads the way with 8 and 11 nominations respectively for the Judith-Jasmin and Antoine-Desilets awards.

The identity of the winners will be announced at the FPJQ convention on November 16. The Grand Prix Judith-Jasmin and the Grand Prix Antoine-Desilets, which reward the best work, all categories combined, will also be awarded during the evening.
