Officially appointed head of Hamas after the death of Ismail Haniyeh, Yahya Sinouar is the main instigator of the attacks of October 7. Hidden in the tunnels of Gaza, he is the number one target of the Israeli army.
In a tunnel in Gaza, behind children, the silhouette of Yahya Sinouar. This is the last known image of the man who now politically leads Hamas. Yahya Sinouar was already, in fact, the real leader of the movement. But his promotion remains a provocation towards the Hebrew state. Because this intransigent leader is the sponsor of the attacks of October 7. Here is one of his diatribes against Israel: “Each of you must take a knife and stab an Israeli, or take your car and run over him.”. Yahya Sinouar, holed up, has been hunted in the tunnels of Gaza by the Israeli army for 10 months. He remains elusive and very much alive.
Yahya Sinouar spent 23 years in Israeli prisons. Upon his release, he returned to Gaza as a hero and over time, he imposed his supremacy. An uncontested leader, but one whose life is on borrowed time. “The Israeli authorities say today that the physical elimination of Yahya Sinouar remains their priority, regardless of his hierarchical position within Hamas.”underlines Maryse Burgot, special envoy to Jerusalem (Israel).
