Artistic Swimming | Canada finishes sixth in team event

(Saint-Denis) Canada finished the artistic swimming team competition in sixth place on Wednesday at the Paris Olympic Games.


The team composed of Scarlett Finn, Audrey Lamothe, Jonnie Newman, Raphaëlle Plante, Kenzie Priddell, Claire Scheffel, Jacqueline Simoneau and Florence Tremblay received a score of 253.0567 points for their acrobatic program on a theme of hip-hop classics.

The Canadians took seventh place in the technical program on Monday, then fifth place in the free program on Tuesday.

They finished with 859.2229 points in the cumulative score, 41.509 points from the podium.

China won the competition, finishing first in all three programs, with an impressive total of 996.1389 points.

The United States (914.3421) won silver, while Spain (900.7319) took bronze.

Russia has dominated the artistic swimming events at the Olympics since Sydney in 2000. However, it is absent from the Paris Games following the invasion of Ukraine.

Canada finished sixth in the team event at the 2021 Tokyo Games. It finished in the same spot at the World Aquatics Championships this winter in Doha, Qatar.

Simoneau and Lamothe will be back in action on Friday and Saturday, during the presentation of the duo competition.
