Thousands of children attend the Paris 2024 Games thanks to Secours populaire

In total, 4,000 children will enjoy the events, like a group of teenagers who came from Eure on Wednesday to encourage the French in athletics at the Stade de France.

Stars in the eyes, for 4 000 children. Thanks to Secours populaire and partners, children of beneficiaries of the charity will be able to attend the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. On Wednesday, August 7, 24 teenagers from Eure were able to attend athletics events at the Stade de France.

Short sweatshirt, denim shorts and, of course, a phone slung over her shoulder, Maéline doesn’t know which way to turn. “Too much to look at”marvels the 11-year-old girl. years old with a mischievous look, with freckles on his nose : “It’s so cool to know what’s going on behind the camera, it’s magnificent !”

She never imagined she would attend a Games event, let alone at the Stade de France, so when Cyréna Samba-Mayela entered the track to qualify for the 100m hurdles semi-final, Maéline proved to be an outstanding commentator. : “The Frenchwoman is the third. If she misses, she disappoints all of France. Watch out, the stress is rising… Come on Cyrena, you’re going to win !”

When the athlete crosses the finish line, the girl analyzes : “She qualifies, she is third. She has a good time.” Confirmation by the voice of the commentator which resonates in the stadium, “Never has a French woman run so fast at the Olympic Games”.

Michèle has been a volunteer for almost 30 years years at the Secours populaire in Charleval, in Eure. She finds “Magnificent” to be able to participate in the Olympic Games and “to please the children”. “When I told them, they were over the moonshe adds. They didn’t imagine it was possible for them.”

“Even if they didn’t have the chance to go on vacation, they will still have things to tell their friends when they go back to school.”

Magalie will also have things to tell when she returns to the island of Saint-Martin, in the Caribbean. This nurse accompanies adolescents, thanks to the Secours populaire. “I am 50 years old and I come to the Stade de France for the first time in my life, to see the 2024 Olympic Games, she enthuses. I never would have thought.” She admits that she didn’t necessarily like the Games at first, but that experiencing them “in situ, it’s great”.

An unforgettable day, with the hope for Secours populaire to succeed in financing 10 000 sports licenses by the end of the year.
