Documentary section | TIFF unveils its programming

(Toronto) Documentaries about the rise and fall of Vice Media and efforts to return cultural artifacts to First Nations will be screened at the Toronto International Film Festival, which runs September 5-15.


Organizers announced Wednesday that programming for the documentary section will begin with Vice is Brokein which American Eddie Huang, former Vice collaborator and creator of the television series Fresh Off the Boatan investigation into the once-thriving digital media company.

Among the Canadian titles is So Surreal: Behind the Masksin which directors Neil Diamond and Joanne Robertson trace efforts to repatriate masks and other artifacts to the Yup’ik and Kwakwaka’wakw First Nations.

Your Tomorrowwritten and directed by Ali Weinstein, follows the fight to save Toronto’s Ontario Place, a waterfront entertainment venue that is the subject of redevelopment plans to build a massive spa and indoor water park.

In Living Togetherthe first production by Montrealer Halima Elkhatabi, tells the story of several young Montrealers in search of the ideal roommate.
