Canadian Milos Raonic withdrew from the National Bank Open on Tuesday evening.
The news came out about thirty minutes before the match he was due to play against Denmark’s Holger Rune on centre court, the curtain-raiser for the evening.
Then, around 6:30 p.m., Raonic showed up in the press conference room.
“It was a really discouraging feeling. I tried to warm up for my match today and the hardest thing to do was serve. I don’t think I was going to be competitive by any stretch of the imagination. I can handle a lot of things but without my serve it would be a tough day for me. I felt some pain in my shoulder and I have to see what happens,” he said, as an introduction.
