After six days of excavations, 79 dinosaur footprints dating back 200 million years were found in Saint-Laurent-de-Trèves (Lozère), France Bleu Gard Lozère reported on Tuesday, August 6.
Paleontologists came to the Saint-Laurent-de-Trèves site, where the first dinosaur footprints were found in May 2023. It was a walker who first discovered the tracks and reported them. “This is a major discovery for scientists”explains Jean-David Moireau, paleontologist. After this discovery, a scientific project was then set up to carry out excavations on the site.
More than a year later, the mission was finally completed and the site revealed several dozen new dinosaur footprints. “We found 79 prints on a fairly small surface area of 150 square metres. It’s remarkable.”rejoices Jean-David Moireau.
The footprints are those of tridactyls, that is to say three-toed, there are also traces of carnivorous bipeds that date back 200 million years. Some were nearly four meters long, describes France Bleu Gard Lozère. The site will be covered at the end of the research. The municipality of Saint-Laurent-de-Trèves has not yet said whether it intends to enhance the site, with signs for example.
