National Bank Open | Rain ends day 2 of qualifying in Montreal

The second day of qualifying at the National Bank Open was interrupted by rain on Monday at Stade IGA and will continue on Tuesday.

It was 5:30 p.m. when tournament officials confirmed the end of activities. This means that Tuesday is likely to be a busy day since it was to mark the start of the men’s singles main draw matches.

At the time of writing, the schedule for Tuesday’s games had not been made public.

Three matches had started when rain forced play to be stopped at 1:12 p.m., including the one between Laval’s Alexis Galarneau and Australia’s Rinky Hijikata on center court.

Galarneau had won the first set 6-2 before losing the second set 6-4 after leading 4-1. The two players had time to split the first two points of the first game of the deciding set before retiring to the locker room.

Only one of the seven matches on the schedule crowned a winner, and that was simply because Australia’s Christopher O’Connell retired after 17 minutes of play against France’s Arthur Rinderknech when the latter was leading 2-1 in the first set.

Three more duels never had time to start.
